Taxonomy
Mergus milleneri was named by Williams and Tennyson (2014). Its type specimen is NMNZ S.29496.3, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Te Ana a Moe, Chatham Island, which is in a Holocene cave horizon in New Zealand.
