Taxonomy
Mesophyletinae was named by Poinar (2008). Its type is Mesophyletis.

It was considered an invalid subgroup of Eccoptarthridae by Poinar (2006); it was reranked as the tribe Mesophyletini by Legalov (2010), Legalov (2012), Legalov (2015), Legalov and Poinar (2015); it was synonymized subjectively with Eccoptarthrinae by Bouchard et al. (2011); it was reranked as the family Mesophyletidae by Clarke and Oberprieler (2018), Cai et al. (2022).

It was assigned to Eccoptarthridae by Poinar (2008); to Baissorhynchitae by Legalov (2010); to Carinae by Legalov (2012), Legalov (2015), Legalov and Poinar (2015); and to Curculionoidea by Clarke and Oberprieler (2018), Cai et al. (2022).
