Sphaerothorax uenoi was named by Cai and Lawrence (2019). Its type specimen is NIGP168930, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Burmese amber, Kachin amber (NIGP collection), which is in a Cenomanian terrestrial amber in Myanmar.
