Olenus argentinus was named by Kayser (1876).

It was recombined as Parabolina argentina by Harrington and Leanza (1957); it was recombined as Parabolina frequens argentina by Pribyl and Vanek (1980); it was recombined as Parabolina (Neoparabolina) argentina by Tortello and AceƱolaza (1993); it was recombined as Parabolina (Neoparabolina) frequens argentina by Tortello and Clarkson (2008).
