Palaeocardita silberlingi was named by Newton et al. (1987). Its type specimen is USNM 416454 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Hells Canyon, which is in a Lacian shallow subtidal limestone in the Martin Bridge Formation of Oregon.
