Taxonomy
Nyanzapithecus alesi was named by Nengo et al. (2017). It is not extant. Its type specimen is KNM-NP 59050. Its type locality is Nyanzapithecus alesi-type locality, which is in a Serravallian terrestrial horizon in the Emunyan Formation of Kenya.
