Taxonomy

Pectinodon was named by Carpenter (1982).

It was synonymized subjectively with Troodon by Gauthier (1986), Currie (1987), Paul (1988), Currie et al. (1990), Nessov (1995), Varricchio (1997), Rauhut (2003) and Makovicky and Norell (2004).

It was assigned to Saurornithoididae by Carpenter (1982), Russell (1984), Breithaupt (1985), Clemens (1986) and Carroll (1988); and to Troodontidae by Longrich (2008), Longrich (2008), Zanno et al. (2011), Larson and Currie (2013) and Williamson and Brusatte (2014).

Synonyms

Pectinodon asiamericanus was named by Nessov (1985). Its type specimen is CCMGE 49/12176, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is SSHD-8, Sheikhdzheili, which is in a Cenomanian fluvial horizon in the Khodzhakul Formation of Uzbekistan.

It was recombined as Saurornithoides asiamericanus by Olshevsky (1992) and Olshevsky (2000); it was recombined as Troodon asiamericanus by Nessov (1995) and Ryan (1997); it was considered a nomen dubium by Makovicky and Norell (2004) and Averianov and Sues (2007).
