Omophronii was named by Bonelli (1810). It is extant.

It was reranked as the tribe Omophronini by LeConte (1861); it was corrected as Omophroninae by Lawrence and Newton (1995), Bouchard et al. (2011), Cai et al. (2022), Rosová et al. (2023).

It was assigned to Carabidae by LeConte (1861); and to Carabidae by Lawrence and Newton (1995), Bouchard et al. (2011), Cai et al. (2022), Rosová et al. (2023).
