Panagaeides was named by Bonelli (1810). It is extant. Its type is Panagaeus.
It was reranked as the subfamily Panagaeinae by Hayashi (1996); it was corrected as Panagaeini by LeConte (1861) and Bouchard et al. (2011).
It was assigned to Harpalidae by LeConte (1861); to Carabidae by Hayashi (1996); and to Harpalinae by Bouchard et al. (2011).
