Euhelopodidae was named by Romer (1956). It was considered monophyletic by D'Emic (2012).

It was reranked as the unranked clade Euhelopodidae by D'Emic (2012), Mannion et al. (2013), Mannion et al. (2019), Carballido et al. (2020), Lim et al. (2023) and Moore et al. (2023).

It was assigned to Bothrosauropodoidea by Kuhn (1966); to Bothropodidae by Dong (1977); to Diplodocoidea by Hunt et al. (1995); to Mamenchisauroidea by Dong (1998); to Sauropoda by Carroll (1988), Upchurch (1997) and Dong et al. (2001); to Eusauropoda by Upchurch (1995), Upchurch (1995), Royo-Torres et al. (2006) and Lü et al. (2006); and to Somphospondyli by D'Emic (2012), Mannion et al. (2013), Mannion et al. (2019), Carballido et al. (2020), Lim et al. (2023) and Moore et al. (2023).
