Taxonomy
Hypsilophodon was named by Huxley (1870). Its type is Hypsilophodon foxii. It is the type genus of Hypsilophodontidae, Camptonotidae, Hypsilophodontinae, Hypsilophontidae, Hypsilophodontoidea.

It was synonymized subjectively with Iguanodon by Owen (1874).
