Taxonomy
Brachyphyllum muensteri was named by Schenk (1867). It is not extant.

It was recombined as Cheirolepis muensteri by Schimper (1870), Knowlton (1919) and Lakhanpal et al. (1976); it was recombined as Hirmeriella muensteri by Jung (1967) and Barbacka et al. (2007).
