Taxonomy
Proeuphractus recens was named by Ameghino (1887). It is the type species of Chorobates.

It was synonymized subjectively with Dasypus limpidus by Lydekker (1894); it was recombined as Praeuphractus recens by Rovereto (1914); it was misspelled as Praeuphractus recens by Ameghino (1889); it was recombined as Chorobates recens by Ameghino (1887) and Reig (1958).
