Cooksonia pertoni was named by Lang (1937). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Perton Lane, England (Welsh Borderland), which is in a Pridoli terrestrial mudstone/sandstone in the Rushall Formation of the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Cooksonia.
