Taxonomy
Gmelina tertiara was named by Bande (1987). Its type specimen is BSIP 35770, a wood, and it is a 3D fossil preserving soft parts. Its type locality is Nawargaon, which is in a Paleogene fluvial-lacustrine horizon in the Deccan Intertrappean Formation of India.
