Palmocarpon mahurzarii

Discussion

Large obovoid, measure 1.5-1.00 cm in size, one seeded drupe with large central cavity. The fruit wall or pericarp is fibrous 0.55cm thick. It is made up of outer thin epicarp about 200 um thick, middle fibrous mesocarp about 0.33cm thick and with longitudinally arranged, irregularly distributed fibres in parenchymatous tissue and inner hard endocarp 111 um thick. The endosperm cavity is 13x8 mm broad.

Taxonomy
Palmocarpon mahurzarii was named by Sangrame et al. (2012) [Locality: Mahurzari Age: Upper Cretaceous (Maastrichtian)]. It is not extant. Its type specimen is NRS Palm fruit 1/Deposited in Botany department of J.M.P.C. Bhandara, a seed/fruit.
