Conuropsis was named by Salvadori (1891). It is not extant. Its type is Psittacus carolinensis.
It was assigned to Arinae by Wetmore (1940); to Psittacinae by Wetmore (1956); and to Psittacidae by Wetmore (1926), Hay (1930), Lambrecht (1933), Olson (1985), Carroll (1988) and Clements et al. (2017).
