Avefallotaspis maria was named by McMenamin (2001) [Type locality is USGS 3784]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS 3784-CO, which is in a Dyeran marine limestone/siltstone in the Poleta Formation of Nevada. It is the type species of Avefallotaspis.
