Taxonomy
Neocavia pampeana was named by Madozzo-Jaén et al. (2018). Its type specimen is GHUNLPam 19559, a mandible (fragment of left mandible with p4–m3), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Estancia El Recado, which is in a Chasicoan/Huayquerian terrestrial horizon in the Cerro Azul Formation of Argentina.
