Taxonomy
Basiaeschna alaskaensis was named by Garrouste and Nel (2019). Its type specimen is USGS Paleobotany 9870a, a wing, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is USGS Paleobotany 9870, Baxter Mine, which is in a Thanetian/Ypresian fluvial-lacustrine siliciclastic in the Chickaloon Formation of Alaska.
