Tropidacres was named by Brunner von Wattenwyl (1893). It is extant. Its type is Tropidacris.

It was corrected as Tropidacrini by Zeuner (1941) and Cadena-Castañeda and Cardona-Granda (2015).

It was assigned to Catantopinae by Zeuner (1941); and to Romaleinae by Cadena-Castañeda and Cardona-Granda (2015).
