Taxonomy
Conocephalites depressus was named by Shumard (1861). Its type specimen is USNM 90172 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Ptychoparia depressa by Miller (1889); it was recombined as Aphelaspis depressa by Resser (1935).
