Taxonomy
Arionellus (Crepicephalus) oweni was named by Meek and Hayden (1861). Its type specimen is USNM 1180 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Arionellus oweni by Meek and Hayden (1862); it was recombined as Agraulos oweni by Meek and Hayden (1864); it was recombined as Ptychoparia oweni by Walcott (1884) and Walcott (1884); it was recombined as Modocia oweni by Walcott (1924), Resser (1935); it was replaced with Modocia nevadensis by Palmer (1954).
