Taxonomy
Lamprodon primigenius was named by Wagner (1848). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pikermi (old collection), which is in a Miocene fluvial horizon in Greece.

It was recombined as Hystrix primigenia by Gaudry (1867) and de Bonis et al. (1992).
