Taxonomy
Amphidon was named by Simpson (1925). Its type is Amphidon superstes. It is the type genus of Amphidontidae.
It was assigned to Amphidontoidea by Prothero (1981); and to Amphidontidae by Simpson (1925), Simpson (1925), Simpson (1929), Hay (1930), Cassiliano and Clemens (1979), McKenna and Bell (1997), Rougier et al. (2001), Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004).
It was assigned to Amphidontoidea by Prothero (1981); and to Amphidontidae by Simpson (1925), Simpson (1925), Simpson (1929), Hay (1930), Cassiliano and Clemens (1979), McKenna and Bell (1997), Rougier et al. (2001), Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004).
