It was reranked as the family Odontophorinae by Livezey and Zusi (2007); it was reranked as the subfamily Odontophorinae by Hay (1930), Wetmore (1940), Wetmore (1956), Brodkorb (1958), Mayr (2022).
It was assigned to Perdicidae by Hay (1930); to Phasianides by Lambrecht (1933); to Phasianidae by Wetmore (1940), Wetmore (1956), Brodkorb (1958), Livezey and Zusi (2007); to Galli by Worthy et al.
