Taxonomy
Pheraios chryssomallos was named by Kostopoulos and Koufos (2006). Its type specimen is PER-810, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Perivolaki (= PER), which is in a Miocene terrestrial claystone in the Lithostratigraphic Unit B Formation of Greece. It is the type species of Pheraios.
