Urmiatherium kassandriensis

Taxonomy
Urmiatherium kassandriensis was named by Lazaridis et al. (2017). Its type specimen is LGPUT FRK19, a partial skull (Skull fragment with occipital, supraoccipital, parietal and parts of the frontals with the right horn core), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Fourka (FRK), which is in a Miocene terrestrial sandstone in Greece.

Lazaridis et al. 2017Medium-sized compared to other Urmiatherium species; short, conical horn cores without torsion and buttresses; thick and porous frontals without sinuses; thick and pneumatized parietals; parietal length about 75% of the occipital; simple fronto-parietal suture and nuchal crest; large mastoids, not in contact with parietals; voluminous posterior tuberosities of the basioccipital, ellipsoid in shape, converging rostrally and bearing caudally two large sub-triangular facets for the atlas, separated from each other by a deep narrow furrow; short and thick paroccipital processes.
