Taxonomy

Centetodon was named by Marsh (1872). Its type is Centetodon pulcher.

It was assigned to Leptictidae by Hay (1902); to Nyctitheriidae by Hay (1930); to Geolabidinae by Van Valen (1967); and to Geolabididae by Marsh (1872), McKenna and Bell (1997), Asher et al. (2005), Lopatin (2006), Gunnell et al. (2008), Lofgren et al. (2020) and Korth et al. (2022).

C. altidens (syn. Didelphodus ventanus), C. aztecus, C. bacchanalis, C. bembicophagus, C. chadronensis, C. divaricatus, C. hendryi, C. kuenzii, C. magnus, C. marginalis (syn. Synonyms

Protictops was named by Peterson (1934).

It was synonymized subjectively with Geolabis by Van Valen (1967); it was considered a nomen dubium by Lillegraven et al. (1981); it was synonymized subjectively with Centetodon by Lopatin (2006).

It was assigned to Geolabididae by Peterson (1934) and McKenna and Bell (1997).
Embassis was named by Cope (1873).

It was synonymized subjectively with Peratherium by Cope (1884) and Scott (1941); it was synonymized subjectively with Didelphis by Hay (1902); it was synonymized subjectively with Centetodon by Lillegraven et al. (1981), Asher et al. (2005) and Lopatin (2006).

It was assigned to Geolabidinae by Van Valen (1967).
Hypacodon was named by McKenna (1960).

It was synonymized subjectively with Centetodon by McKenna et al. (1962), Van Valen (1967), Robinson (1968), Gazin (1976), Lillegraven et al. (1981), Asher et al. (2005) and Lopatin (2006).
