Taxonomy
Stachyotaxus was named by Nathorst (1886). It is not extant. Its type is Stachyotaxus septentrionalis.

It was assigned to Coniferales by Andrews (1970), Lakhanpal et al. (1976) and Chandra and Tewari (1991); and to Palissyaceae by Vavrek et al. (2007).
