Taxonomy
Astrapotherium iheringi was named by Ameghino (1899) [Early Miocene exposed in the Pinturas river valley, Santa Cruz province (Argentina; Figure 1), currently identified as Pinturas Formation ( Bown et al., 1988)]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Valle del rio Pinturas, which is in a Santacrucian terrestrial horizon in the Pinturas Formation of Argentina.
It was recombined as Astrapothericulus iheringi by Ameghino (1902).
