Taxonomy
Leptolambda was named by Patterson and Simons (1958). It is not extant. Its type is Leptolambda schmidti.

It was synonymized subjectively with Barylambda by Gingerich and Childress (1983) and Miller (1986).

It was assigned to Barylambdidae by Patterson and Simons (1958), Simons (1960), Carroll (1988), de Muizon and Marshall (1992), Lucas (1998) and Secord (2008).
