Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
B. Patterson 1939 (Bathyopsoides)1| C^ P| M|. Metacone on P^ more distinct than
in Probathyopsis; M^ notably smaller than P^ and M^; cingula less extensive than in Probathyopsis, more extensive than in Pro- dinoceras. Lower incisors conical, with long crowns and external (posterior) heels; lower canine considerably larger than incisors, flattened transversely; molar metastylids long antero-posteriorly; Mx relatively smaller, M^ relatively larger than in Bathyopsis; posterior talonid crests of My-^ compressed antero-posteriorly, entoconidssubordinatedinthem;M^withsmallentoconid. Skull without indication of parietal horns; sagittal crest extending forward to plane of glenoid cavities, occiput consequently triangular and cranialtablelessextensivethaninBathyopsis. Diastematabetween canines and P| about as in Bathyopsis, much longer than in Proha- thyopsis or Prodinoceras. Mandibular flanges very large, gener- ally similar to those of Bathyopsis but differing in that they meet ventrally beneath the symphysis in a wide 11 rather than in a narrow A.
W. H. Wheeler 1961 (Bathyopsoides)Medium-sized uintathere. P? with relatively distinct metacone. First molars rela- tively small. Entoconid of Mg, small, but possessing a small anterio-medially directed crest. Ms with strong hypoconulid crest present, directed anteriorly. Lower incisors with small posterior
heels; lower canine considerably larger than incisors. Prominent sagittal crest, no parietal horns. Diastema longer than in Probathyopsis or Prodinoceras, about as in Bathyopsis. Jaw with deep inframandibular process sloping evenly backward and upward to the angle.
