Taxonomy

Smilodectes was named by Wortman (1903).

It was synonymized subjectively with Notharctus by Troxell (1926).

It was assigned to Microsyopsidae by Wortman (1903); to Notharctinae by Gingerich (1979); to Notharctinae by Franzen (1994); and to Adapidae by Gazin (1958), Gazin (1968), Gazin (1976), McKenna and Bell (1997).

Synonyms

Aphanolemur was named by Granger and Gregory (1917). Its type is Aphanolemur gibbosus.

It was synonymized subjectively with Smilodectes by Gazin (1958), Gingerich (1979).

It was assigned to Adapidae by Simpson (1940).
