Chipetaia was named by Rasmussen (1996). It is not extant. Its type is Chipetaia lamporea.
It was assigned to Omomyidae by McKenna and Bell (1997); to Omomyinae by Rasmussen (1996), Muldoon and Gunnell (2002); and to Utahiini by Gunnell and Rose (2002).
