Ellipes dominicana was named by Poinar (2018). Its type specimen is Poinar He-2-19, a nymph, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Dominican amber (Poinar coll), which is in a Burdigalian/Langhian terrestrial amber in the Dominican Republic.
