It was assigned to Ischyrictini by Baskin (1998); to Mustelidae by Zdansky (1924), Carroll (1988), Werdelin and Peigne (2010) and Koufos (2012); to Mellivorinae by Valenciano et al. (2015) and Valenciano et al. (2018); and to Eomellivorini by Valenciano and Govender (2020).
