Triarthrus caecigenus was named by Raymond (1920). Its type specimen is MCZ 1593, an exoskeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Porterfieldia caecigenus by Cooper (1953); it was recombined as Porterfieldia caecigena by Tripp (1980).
