Ysengrinia was named by Ginsburg (1965) [type European Y. gerandiana]. It is not extant.
It was assigned to Amphicyoninae by Hunt (1998); to Amphicyonidae by Ginsburg (1965), Carroll (1988), Hunt (2002), Morales et al. (2008), Werdelin and Peigne (2010); and to Thaumastocyoninae by Morales et al. (2021).
