It was corrected as Mycteriinae by Hay (1930), Wetmore (1956); it was misspelled as Mycteriinae by Wetmore (1940), Lawrence and Newton (1995), Bouchard et al. (2011), Cai et al. (2022).

It was assigned to Ciconiidae by Hay (1930), Wetmore (1940), Wetmore (1956); and to Mycteridae by Lawrence and Newton (1995), Bouchard et al. (2011), Cai et al. (2022).
