Strix acadica was named by Gmelin (1788). It is extant.
It was recombined as Cryptoglaux acadica by Wetmore (1940) and Miller and DeMay (1942); it was recombined as Aegolius acadicus by Wetmore (1956), Emslie (1998) and Clements et al. (2017).
