Chasmataspididae was named by Caster and Brooks (1956). It is not extant. Its type is Chasmataspis. It is the type family of Chasmataspidacea.
It was assigned to Chasmataspidacea by Bergström (1975); and to Chasmataspidida by Dunlop et al. (2003), Dunlop et al. (2020).
