Alilepus was named by Dice (1931) [type Mongolian A. annectens]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Leporinae by Dawson (1958); to Palaeolaginae by Fejfar (1961); and to Leporidae by Dice (1931), McKenna and Bell (1997).
