Diagnosis

C. Lochman 1952 | Onchocephalus mexicanus Lochman as here recognized differs from O. buelnaensis in the steeper descent of the brim and continued down-slope of the border of the cranidium, and the steep slope of the pleural platforms of the pygidium. The species are definitely close, but the cranidia from each locality can be separated into the two types. The author was not able to demonstrate a gradational series between the two types, but if a hundred or more specimens are cleaned, it may be possible to show such a feature. This would afford a very interesting problem as plenty of material is available. |
