Tapirus rioplatensis
Taxonomy
Tapirus rioplatensis was named by Cattoi (1957). Its type specimen is MACN 15.735, a partial skeleton (mandible with dentition, vertebras, pelvis elements), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is esquina Salguero y Arenales, CABA, which is in an Ensenadan terrestrial horizon in Argentina.

N. Cattoi 1957 | Especie de mayor talla y robustez que cualquier otro tapir pleistocenico y reciente de America de Sur. Mandibula fuerte y grande, con region sinfisiaria ancha, con diametro transversal casi igual en toda su longitud. Molariformes mandibulares con metalofido e hipolofido francamente convergentes hacia el lado externo; metalofido de mayor altura que hipolofido. Pelvis robusta, con el cuerpo del ilion de seccion triangular y agujero obrurador de gran diametro. |
