Macrogenis was named by Wright (1993) [named as subgenus by Matthew 1924; first published use as a genus that I know of]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Tayassuidae by Wright (1993); to Platygonini by Dutra et al. (2017); and to Tayassuinae by Wright (1998) and Prothero (2021).
