Mylohyus was named by Cope (1869). It is not extant.
It was synonymized subjectively with Tayassu by Hay (1902).
It was assigned to Tayassuinae by McKenna and Bell (1997) and Wright (1998); to Platygonini by Dutra et al. (2017); to Tayassuidae by Cope (1869), Gidley (1920), Kurten and Anderson (1980), Carroll (1988) and Albright et al. (2019); and to Mylohyini by Prothero (2021).
