Taxonomy
Xibalbaonyx microcaninus was named by Stinnesbeck et al. (2018). Its type specimen is INAH-MRG-10-294922, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Zacoalco, Lake Chapala, which is in a Pleistocene terrestrial horizon in Mexico.
