Taxonomy
Bothriodon was named by Aymard (1846) [type is the European species B. velaunus von Meyer 1832]. It is not extant.
It was synonymized subjectively with Ancodon by Hay (1902) and Andrews (1906).
It was assigned to Anthracotheriidae by Aymard (1846), Scott (1913), Carroll (1988), McKenna and Bell (1997) and Thewissen et al. (2001); and to Bothriodontinae by Scott (1940) and Scherler et al. (2019).
