Taxonomy
Brachyodus was named by Depéret (1895). Its type is Anthracotherium onoideum.
It was assigned to Bothriodontinae by Boisserie et al. (2005); and to Anthracotheriidae by Prasad (1964), Prasad (1967), Carroll (1988), McKenna and Bell (1997), Rasmussen and Gutierrez (2009) and Holroyd et al. (2010).
